Lake Alexander is one of the most popular lakes in Morrison County. Besides being a scenic, clear-water lake, it supports a diverse fish community that offers a variety of angling opportunities. Alexander has abundant offshore structure and a reputation for better angling success at night or on overcast days. Submergent vegetation grows to a depth of 19 feet with canada waterweed, coontail, eurasian milfoil, flat stem pondweed, and northern milfoil being the most common species. Curly leaf pondweed is common before July 1. Sand is the most common shallow water substrate around the lake. Several resorts as well as three public accesses can be found on the lake. The Lake Alexander Preserve which is owned by the Nature Conservancy is located on the south shore of the lake and is open to hiking. The fish management focus for the lake is walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and muskellunge.
